v0.dev vs Bolt.new vs Appio — Which Should You Actually Pick?

I'll be upfront: I built Appio. So you'd expect this post to say "Appio is best at everything." It's not. v0.dev and Bolt.new beat us at several things, and if you pick wrong because of a marketing post, you waste your money — and I lose your trust forever.

Here's the honest comparison, updated May 2026.

The Quick Answer

  • v0.dev — best if you're a React developer who needs UI components, and have a Vercel subscription already.
  • Bolt.new — best if you need a full-stack web app with a real backend, and can pay in USD.
  • Appio — best if you want an installable mobile app via WhatsApp link, in Hindi or English, paid in rupees.

If none of those describe you, scroll to the "Where each tool loses" section before you pay anything.

Full Comparison Table

| Dimension | v0.dev | Bolt.new | Appio |

|---|---|---|---|

| Starting paid price | $20/mo (~₹1,700) | $20/mo (~₹1,700) | ₹149/mo |

| Free tier | Limited daily messages | Limited daily tokens | 2 apps × 5 messages each, no signup |

| Output | React/Next.js components | Full web app (any framework) | Installable mobile PWA |

| Mobile install | No | No | Yes — single share link installs to home screen |

| Hindi / Hinglish prompts | English only | English only | Yes, both supported |

| Backend / database | No (frontend only) | Yes (via WebContainer) | No (local storage only) |

| Payment methods | International card | International card | UPI, debit card, wallets |

| Code export | Yes | Yes | No (yet) |

| Native iOS/Android app | No | No | No (PWA only) |

Where Each Tool Actually Loses

This is the section I wish someone had written for me when I was evaluating tools.

Where v0.dev loses

  • It's not a full app builder. It generates UI components. You still need to wire up routing, state, API calls, and deployment yourself. If you don't write React, v0 will not save you.
  • No backend. Pure frontend output.
  • Vercel-locked. Output is shaped around the Vercel/Next.js ecosystem.

Where Bolt.new loses

  • No mobile install path. You build a web app. To put it on a phone, the user has to bookmark a URL — there's no "install to home screen" link you can WhatsApp to a friend.
  • English-only prompts. "Ek expense tracker banao" will confuse it.
  • USD pricing + international card. Painful for most Indian users.

Where Appio loses (yes, really)

  • No real backend. We save data in the phone's local storage. If you need user accounts, server-side data, or sync between devices, Appio is the wrong tool today.
  • No native iOS/Android export. Output is a PWA. PWAs install to the home screen, work offline, and look like apps — but they are not Play Store / App Store listings.
  • No code export yet. You can't download the project as a zip and host it yourself. We're working on this.
  • Smaller community. Bolt and v0 have years of Reddit threads and YouTube tutorials. We don't.

If any of those are deal-breakers for your project, please use Bolt.new or v0.dev. Better that than paying us ₹149 and being disappointed.

Pricing Reality Check (INR, May 2026)

Exchange rate used: 1 USD = ₹85.

| Plan | v0.dev | Bolt.new | Appio |

|---|---|---|---|

| Free | ~5 messages/day | ~1M tokens/month | 2 apps × 5 messages |

| Entry paid | $20/mo (~₹1,700) | $20/mo (~₹1,700) | ₹149/mo |

| Mid tier | $50/mo (~₹4,250) | $50/mo (~₹4,250) | ₹299/mo |

| Top tier | $200/mo (~₹17,000) | $200/mo (~₹17,000) | ₹599/mo |

| Annual discount | Yes (varies) | Yes (varies) | Yes (20% off) |

| Payment | International card | International card | UPI, RuPay, wallets |

Appio's entry tier is roughly 1/11th the price of the entry tier on Bolt or v0. We can do that because we're Indian-based, we use a leaner provider chain, and we don't have the same overhead.

Speed Reality Check

I tested all three on the same prompt — "an expense tracker with categories and a monthly summary." Single run, no retries.

  • v0.dev — Generated UI components in ~15 seconds. No data layer, no functioning summary logic. Required a developer to ship.
  • Bolt.new — Generated a full app in ~2 minutes. Worked end-to-end. Web-only.
  • Appio — Generated a full PWA in ~45 seconds. Worked end-to-end. Installable on phone.

(Times vary. Don't take this as a benchmark — take it as "all three are usable, none is magically faster than the others by 10x.")

Which Should You Choose?

Pick v0.dev if you write React for a living and need design help. Don't pick it if you're not technical. Pick Bolt.new if you need a real web application with a backend and you can pay in USD. Don't pick it if your end-users are on phones and you need an install link. Pick Appio if you want to ship a mobile app to your customer's home screen via a WhatsApp link, in rupees, in Hindi or English. Don't pick it if you need a Postgres database or App Store distribution today.

FAQ

Q: Can Appio export the code so I can move to v0 or Bolt later?

A: Not yet. Code export is on the roadmap. If lock-in worries you, start on Bolt.new.

Q: Will Appio support a real backend (auth, database)?

A: Yes, that's the next major release. Until then, treat Appio as a "frontend + local storage" tool.

Q: Can I publish an Appio app to the Play Store?

A: Not directly. You can wrap the PWA using tools like PWABuilder, but it's manual work.

Q: Does Bolt.new support Hindi prompts?

A: As of May 2026, no — its system prompt assumes English. Hinglish prompts sometimes work but are not reliable.

Q: Is v0.dev's free tier enough to evaluate it?

A: Yes for components, no for full apps. You'll hit limits within a session of real testing.
